Stand Up Specials

Over the years, there have been some truly legendary standup comedians that have made specials on cable television and in the movies. In one form or another, standup comedy has been around since the days of vaudeville. In the late 1970s, the standup special took off and has essentially become the high watermark for a successful comic in their careers. The most legendary comics of all time have all had their important and well received standup special to speak of. For example, in 1987, Rosanne Barr had an HBO special which serve as a major introduction for this comedian and led to a career on television for her. Stephen Wright is a well-known comedian from the late 1970s and early 80s. In 1985, he put out an HBO one hour special that showcased his clever and unique form of comedy. Delirious was a 1983 HBO special featuring emerging comedian Eddie Murphy. This performance of groundbreaking material included legendary bits by the comedian and profane material that popularized a new form of comedy.




Brad Lomas is a big fan of standup comedy and he enjoys going to a number of edgy comedy clubs in his home town of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He goes out to local hotspots in the city and sees many acts as they emerge and tour the clubs there. He is a big fan of a number of these stand up specials which are some of the best of all time. His favorite comedian of all time is Richard Pryor.
