Rock music is an American tradition that has been around for
many years in different forms. The history of rock ‘n roll music is intertwined
with country, soul, rap, rhythm and blues and many other influences. The dawn
of rock ‘n roll is most commonly traced back to the 1950s. The emergence of
such acts which include Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Buddy Holly and a long
list of legends forged the way for different types of music to enter into the
fray. In the 1960s, there was a tremendous amount of fusion in terms of the
experimentation that was going on at the time. Music started to meld with
Middle Eastern influences, blues music from the 1930s, music from India and
other alternative forms of song.

In the 1970s, the scene started to transform into
performance driven acts as a large part of the music formula were the grand
live shows which would become the stuff of legend including arenas and stadium
acts. Such major groups as The Who and Led Zeppelin personify this massive
attraction of this era. In the 1980s, rock ‘n roll music fused with dance in a
way that created its own popular form. Heavy metal became really popular and
brought hard rock music along with it. Acts like Whitesnake and Def Leppard
closed out the decade at the top of the charts.
In the 1990s, many acts were
focused on the Seattle sound known as grunge music. Brad Lomas is a Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania resident that grew up during some of the greatest years in rock
history. He believes that rock music pretty much has stunk since the mid-1990s,
but he pays great tribute to many artist from the decades before.
